I wasn't able to attend the meeting, but want to know what the thoughts are about the low income housing project potentially planned for Elizabeth. I think that the impact to community needs to be seriously evaluated.
As a neighbor, concerned citizen, and parent - I am concerned and against what was being proposed. This is a facility that will house individuals - the chronically homeless - while not requiring them to be drug free to continue their housing and will not accept any responsibility for ensuring the mentally ill received or take the proper medication. Its just too close to my daughter's school - Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School for me to feel comfortable. The presenter did a good job vaguely answering questions and really did not have a plan.
The surrounding neighborhood has some serious concerns and are not supporting the proposal. I did find a site that was evaluating the claims and facts - www.333HawthorneLane.com
We received a flyer on our car while at the school today informing us that the project is not low income but a homeless shelter which will not have a zero tolerance drug policy.
The school has been meeting with the sponsoring organization for months and I am concerned they are leaning the wrong way on this - where has our leadership gone?
Since no rezoning is required, how does ECA plan to stop this?
