Farewell pumpkin wall

The 2007 Pumpkin Wall has come and gone with little fanfare from UtWT. My apologies to all involved for neglecting the wall and the service of the dedicated carvers who had to brave the few days of rain we've had in the last few months to scoop and cut. Nice job to the Woodpeckers and all who took part. This is what the wall looked like on Halloween night.

Im not sure if the pumpkin wall is a community sponsored project, or that of the residents of that address. Which is it? If its the latter, disregard the following.

If it is supposed to be a neighborhood project, i for one take offense at its political nature. Even though i also look forward to a new admn. in the WH, I dont want the neighborhood speaking for me.

The Pumpkin Wall is put up by a group of guys who call themselves the Woodpeckers, many of whom live in Elizabeth. They get together every Saturday morning for coffee before working on various projects. The Pumpkin Wall is not now and has never been an Elizabeth Community Association project, nor does the ECA endorse it in any way as far as I know.

I suppose I should also point out that, although I think highly of the ECA and the board and often plug their events (and they are kind enough to say nice things about UtWT), I am not associated with the ECA and this blog is not an organ of the ECA.

Additionally, the Woodpeckers vetted the message with the folks who hosted the wall this year. They did the appropriate things.

I'll be looking forward to erecting my own ugly political statement in my yard following Hillary Clinton's election. I'm sure our neighborhood of open-minded "progressives" will be just fine with an opposing viewpoint to their own. Snort.

To which I can only say that you may be underestimating the open-mindedness of your neighbors and overestimating the number of progressives.

Underestimating the open-mindedness of my neighbors and overestimating the number of "progressives"?

One can only hope.
