Latest restaurant rumor

The latest rumor is that the planned Mexican restaurant in the old Arrow cleaner's spot between Roy White Flowers and Sub Station is dead. Instead it will be a beer, burgers and billiards concept. A thought from an anonymous observer: Don't we have enough beer and burger spots nearby? I might have to agree with that. But let's see how it turns out.

totally agree on the over-abundance of beer & burger places, but apparently we're going to lose Philospher's Stone and Jack's when they bulldoze that block, so it might be nice to have such a place as a "regular joe" fallback across the street.

They're bulldozing Phil's Stone and Jack's? Amen (to PS, Jack's is ok)...I'm over hearing the bands on Sunday night--yup, I live all the way over on 5th Street and I hear them! I feel bad for the people who live closer. When are they bulldozing?

This is secondhand, but good friends of mine are friends withone of Jack's owner and heard it directly from him (not Andy, the other guy). A couple of employees have also mentioned it to me. Not sure of a date, sometime in 2008 or maybe not until 2009.... Jack's has apparently secured the old Steeple building on Pecan to relocate....And I believe I heard La-tee-da's will have to be moved as it's a historical building??

John, time to get the full scoop!

P.S. Great blog! Just saw the url in the new Elizabeth newsletter.

Thanks beaumontstyle! And good point about the project across the street from the new burger joint. I forgot about that.

My understanding is that David Krug owns several properties beginning with the P-Stone and moving toward town. I'm not sure of the number of properties, but Krug's holdings go at least to Jack's. He's owned these properties for some time. I'm not sure of his timeline, but rumors have been heating up lately. I'm less sure on the fate of the house that holds La-tee-da's.

You may remember Krug from the Eckerd development at 7th and Pecan. Not a great project, in my opinion. It's a suburban design in an urban setting. Hopefully he'll do better this time.

I'll keep my eyes and ears open and post what I hear.

What are they doing with that corner if they are bulldozing those buildings?

I'm sorry Rebecca, which corner do you mean? (There are so many corners being bulldozed!)

The latest at Jack's and PS...

The property is still owned by David Krug. Chris Branch of the Boulevard Company in partnership with Redan Partners seeks to buy. Boulevard was in negotiations for a long period of time with the ECA's zoning committee regarding a rezoning. During this time Jacks' went on and bought the steeple. PS and La Tee Da's do not yet have a firm plan.

Because Boulevard has not been able to define a development plan, they have changed their view on the site to one of "mid term" hold. 5 year financing has been secured. They will likely close in October or November.

I guess that means that, while things are developing, there's not a clear-cut plan with a definitive time-line yet. Is that right anonymous? (And thanks for the details!)
